Harvest Monday - May 2011

The peak citrus season is coming to an end, but I still have a few varieties left, along with an assortment of other tropical fruits. Here's what I'm picking this week:

Chickasaw plum, Surinam Cherry
Starfruit, Honeybells
Sweet Lemon, Valencia oranges
Ruby Red grapefruit, Marsh White grapefruit

Picked this week, but devoured before the photo shoot, were Cherry of the Rio Grande, and Persian limes. All of the herbs and leafy vegetables are the same as last month.
Click on any of the links above to read more about that fruit. To see what other gardeners are harvesting today, visit Daphne's Dandelions, host of the Harvest Monday meme.

  1. Oh to be able to grow fresh fruit like that. By the time most fruit get here to the north it is far beyond peak.

  2. You have no idea how completely jealous I am of your gorgeous fruit selection! We have such limited space on our property that gets adequate sun that there is only room enough for the veggie garden and some soft fruits (berries). Having such an orchard of tropical and citrus fruits is amazing. Thanks for sharing your weekly harvest and the tempting pics!

  4. The citrus is in bloom here, I'll be *harvesting* some fantastic Orange Blossom honey by the end of next week. With all of those wonderful fruit trees, do you keep bees?

  5. Lynda: I don't keep bees, but there are a lot of them always buzzing around, mainly because I always have something for them to feed on!

  7. You've got a beautiful selections of fruits, some of them I've never seen before (Surinam Cherry). The trees and shrubs must be very prolific - how do you preserve the fruits?

  8. balblo: Most of my fruit is eaten fresh, or sold at the Farm Swap Meet. I do make a lot of Surinam Cherry jam. It is one of my favorites! I also dehydrate some of the Starfruit.

  10. Wish you lived closer, I really want my honey to try the surinam chery and a COTRG before we go totin' them home and spending time and effort to find he hates them. LOL

  11. Ali: Gardeners learn to be patient because they don't have any other choice!

Barbie: Surinam cherry is a strong flavor that some people don't like, but Cherry of the Rio Grande is much milder and I'm sure your honey would like that one!
